Do. Or do not. There is no try.

The first time I heard this phrase spoken by wise old Yoda when I was about 10 years old, I was perplexed and it stuck with me. Maybe because we are told by our parents to ‘try our best’ and I thought it was odd that this was so black and white - no grey area for the try. Where was the margin for error? The pat on the back for a good try and better luck next time?

It was do or do not. And it is only since I started to ‘try’ and become an artist that I realised the absolute importance and truth of this statement. I could try forever! Fail here, try there. But if I simply resolve to do, then I will. Failures automatically become learnings not stopping points.

This principle then connects to what has been the entrepreneurial craze for the last 5 or more years, which is manifestation. In manifestation the concept is to ‘be’ what you want to be before you you even become it. You believe, shed your limiting beliefs, leave your doubts behind, and go all in. Failure isn’t an option, because you have already chosen to succeed. And through this energy you put out in to the world, and I believe the inner confidence this yields, you go ahead and do the thing you set out to do.

Has anyone else linked Yoda to manifestation? Or is it only my wild mind that has ventured there haha.

I should add, there are times of course when trying is ok. Like when I want to ‘try’ and cook a cake I saw in a magazine. It’s not my souls purpose to learn how to make this cake, it’s just a little hobby for myself to indulge in on a rainy Sunday afternoon. And thank goodness for that because I’m not a great cook. But when it comes to matters of the soul and things that mean the absolute world to you - follow Yoda’s advice.

May the force be with you.
